Continents

Below you will find some basic information about each continent of Wraithvale. Under some sections you will find areas where text can be expanded. To encourage role play between players who will choose to come from different lands we recommend that you only access the expanded information of whatever continent you decide your character will be from. We have also provided different style options depending on where you may decide to be from, though these are just suggestions.

Continent:
Spruce

Spruce is believed to be the home of The Eternity Tree, a great tree larger than any mountain. Legend has it that it was around this tree where The Creators met to dream up all beings, from wild animal to Sentient.  Out of respect for the legend (or fear of its truth) residents of Spruce are conscious of their impact on the land. In a place known as The Sacred Valley is a large tree stump believed to be the remains of The Eternity Tree, a religious city-state rests atop the stump now, led by The Eminence in holy worship of this sacred site.

The rest of Spruce is divided amongst the nations of Birchshield, Mangrovia, and Stote. The Wen’oh are a stateless people living in the Skyward Peaks that divide the three countries and in which The Sacred Valley is nestled.  If your character is coming in response to the flyer, they know that their destination lies in the kingdom of Birchshield.

Common Demonym outside of Spruce: Boles

If you have decided that you wish for your character to be from Spruce...

Continent:
Desdemona

The united kingdom of Desdemona never quite recovered its reputation after The Almost War with King Cassian of Luminaria. When it was divided into four after the death of their last Queen remaining tensions with other kingdoms were laid to rest. The Chanceries of Chaston, Kolyra, Nepia, and Zoseon have held a stoic sort of peace with one another since their institution sixty years ago. Because of this solution one of the most revered gods of Desdemona is Natesis, the Deity of Balance and Union.

Both culturally and in the ways of fashion, Desdemona has held fast to their history; while some see this as falling behind most citizens of Desdemona prefer to believe they found the ideal way to live, making innovation and change unnecessary.

(OOG: If you are from Desdemona your costuming may lean toward Medieval and Renaissance fashions.)

Demonym: Desdemonans

If you have decided that you wish for your character to be from Desdemona Despite a peaceful appearance, anyone who actually lives in Desdemona knows that tensions regularly flare between the Chanceries. The Chancellors, who split the kingdom after Queen Delsaria’s passing, got along but they had already been elderly when the queen passed. Once their titles, still Chancellor out of respect for the past royal family, began passing down disputes of territory, prominence, and pride began. No Chancery has its own military but scuffles occasionally break out between loyal citizens of each. Never, so far, resulting in death and usually leading to at least a few months of Chancellors not actively sniping at one another so they don’t rile up their people. Every year The Chancellors meet to discuss matters of state with one another at the former castle of the ruling family. Each Chancery has its Primary City, usually where the Chancellors residence is, though Kolyra’s current Chancellor prefers to live more privately, very few know where his home is actually located and he only travels to Motlens, Kolyra’s Primary City, for official business. On the history of Luminaria - Desdemona’s history books state that while Queen Delsaria did her best to resolve issues with King Cassian after the assassination of his mother, Luminaria’s Queen Adelia, formerly Princess Adelia of Desdemona, in the end the boy was unprepared for the responsibilities of being a king. When the fog fell Delsaria had been planning to petition the other kingdoms for guardianship of King Cassian, and therefore Luminaria, until he was better prepared to rule. Chancery: Chaston Current Chancellor: Delaterius Highmore - Human Primary City: Shaderock Responsibility: Mining Chancery: Kolyra Current Chancellor: Folmatin Graysunder, a Dwarf Primary City: Motlens Responsibility: Metalwork and sculpting Chancery: Nepia Current Chancellor: Plumeria Cocoafly, a Forest Elf who likes to style herself as a dryad Primary City: Dapplewatch Responsibility: Agriculture Chancery: Zoseon Current Chancellor: Runebunny Trueeye, a jackrabbit Sylvyn Primary City: Varengrave Responsibility: Lumber and woodworking

Continent: Strangelight

The Continent of Strangelight was named for the Anomalous lighthouse on its shore. No one can ever be sure which shore it will be on, the lighthouse likes to move. After the Night Elves built their country The Founders of The Strangelight Foundation were granted permission to build their headquarters in the main city, Centralia. This has acted as the home base for Strangelight Foundation operations for over two hundred years, though most continents have their own Strangelight outposts since Anomalies are not exclusive to Strangelight.

Because of the nature of Strangelight it can be considered a fairly dangerous place to live; there are entire anomalous areas such as The Watching Rainforest, where the trees have eyes that watch travelers as they pass through. Off the coast of Strangelight, connected by a long boardwalk, is a circus and carnival that operates year round.

The Strangelight government consists of a Council who meet regularly to determine matters important to the continent. The Royal Family, while no longer in full control, often attend ceremonies and when absolutely necessary the king will intervene in Council matters.

Because of the adaptations they have made due to their proximity to constant Anomalous activity the fashion of Strangelight has developed unique qualities to be prepared even while on the move.

(OOG: If you are from Strangelight your costuming may lean toward a more Steampunk aesthetic.)

Demonym: Lightners

If you have decided that you wish for your character to be from Strangelight A lot of people think Strangelight is a dangerous place to live. That’s (mostly) untrue. With the high population of Strangelight Agents and lessons from a young age on how to avoid some of the most common Anomalies it can be as nice a place to live as any. It is generally advised that you don’t travel by yourself or stray from known paths as much as possible, but that’s true just about everywhere. Strangelights population is one of the more agnostic toward the gods. While some places do have temples or meeting houses for religious ceremonies it is hard to take The Creators seriously when no religious text even tries to explain the Anomalies or any purpose they may have outside of what The Strangelight Foundation comes up with for them. (OOG: This does not mean your character must be agnostic or atheist if they are from Strangelight! This is not here to dictate roleplay, simply to give you an idea of what life would’ve been like before you began your adventure!) King Curio has been around for over one hundred years, though he has only ruled for the last fifty; Night Elves have long lifespans and his mother ruled for some time even after his father’s passing. He’s fun to see around, if you happen to be in Centralia at the right time, but he mostly keeps to himself. The Council that is actually in charge are mostly elected officials with the exception of there being a seat for the Head of The Strangelight Foundation. They don’t much care about politics, as far as anyone knows, they’re just there to make sure no decisions that might stir up Anomalies get made.

Continent:
Xaelia

Xaelia is a stand out from other continents in that instead of worshiping gods or even Ascended there has become something close to a religion surrounding a woman and young girl, lost to an unknown fate years ago.

The kingdom of Xaelia is a good neighbor and none of the other continents have negative things to say about their interactions when they’ve met people from, or personally visited, Xaelia. Xaelia still operates under a monarchy though the royal family remain fairly isolated in their castle, only being seen once a year for a specific festival.

While the people of Xaelia are generally cheerful and social their fashion and culture leans to a more Gothic style, influenced by a time when the entire country held vigil for the loss of the young girl and her mother who they now honor.

(OOG: If you want an excuse to wear your best Gothic Victorian fashion this is it!)

Demonym: Xaelians

If you have decided that you wish for your character to be from Xaelia Most of Xaelia doesn’t actually worship Queen Beatrice of Luminaria, formerly Princess Beatrice of Xaelia, or her daughter Princess Serenade of Luminaria. However, there are statues in their honor in most cities in memoriam to the two members of Xaelia’s royal family lost to the fog when it covered Luminaria. The one festival where the royal family presents themself to the kingdom is the remembrance day for the day Luminaria was cut off from the rest of Wraithvale. The one exception to the royal family’s isolation seems to be Prince Lacrymose. Rumors from Wakebridge, the Capital City, have begun to spread that not only does he frequently leave the castle to mingle with citizens of Xaelia but that he finds his family’s continued mourning for two people no one living has ever met to be folly at best, malingering at worst. Xaelian society is set on a foundation of respect and understanding for one another. It is a very egalitarian society that prides itself on how the people take care of each other. Xaelia maintains a strong focus on higher learning and have some of the best schools on Wraithvale, though their strange reputation around the lost queen and princess keeps enrollment from other continents lower than they would like.

Continent:
Hardaway

Hardaway has remained a fairly rural land, to the point where their trade is all done on the continent and traders from other countries take their goods to Midworld on their behalf instead of Hardaway having its own ships to travel. As a result little is known about this continent by anyone who does not live there.

Demonym: Hartens

If you have decided you wish for your character to be from Hardaway The rugged Northeast of Hardaway is ruled by the fearsome and shamanistic Aanghet, a collection of clans that engage in rivalric warfare with one another. It is said that the clans once united under one banner to conquer the entire continent, but infighting quickly broke up the empire. Since that time, newcomers to the continent have started their own towns in the hilly south alongside those who have left the warring ways of the Aanghet. In the East, a tribe of Ogres resides. The Aanghet learned the ways of shamanism from these Ogres long ago.

Continent:
Noctis

Noctis is the southernmost continent and is covered in a voluptuous rainforest. There is a small section of the continent where there are proper settlements, while the rest remains untamable wilderness.

Demonym: Nocturns

Noctis is not currently an option for someone’s character to have come from, further information will need to be found out In Game.

Continent:
Overlook

Overlook is the northernmost continent of Wraithvale. Though it is cold, a network of semi-dormant volcanoes heat the land from within. It is common to find natural hotsprings throughout the land, and the wilderness is teeming with ubiquitous liveliness.

The racial homeland of both the Sylvan and Saurok can be found on this continent.

Demonym:

Overlook is not currently an option for someone’s character to have come from, further information will need to be found out In Game.

Continent:
BlackThorn

BlackThorn has chosen to isolate itself from the rest of Wraithvale. Their lands have become a mystery to most of the outside world, though they communicate with other governments as necessary to ensure their privacy. BlackThorn has traders who can be found at the markets of Midworld but they strictly discuss business with anyone who approaches them. BlackThorn is said to have a strong military despite there being no known outside threat from other kingdoms.

While BlackThorn is not a popular travel destination and getting a permit to travel there is extremely difficult it is further advised by other continents that no one with magical talents or anyone of a Fae Lineage even attempt to travel there. No explanations for this are given.

BlackThorn is not currently an option for someone’s character to have come from, further information will need to be found out In Game.

Continent:
Midworld

Central trade hub of Wraithvale. Midworld Market takes up the center and majority of the space on the continent. Citizens of Midworld live in homes that ring this central marketplace. They have no formal government and maintain neutrality in matters between other continents so that they can continue to operate as an inter-continental hub.

Players cannot currently have their character come from Midworld. Any further information will need to be gathered in game.

Continent:
Luminaria

The continent of Luminaria has been trapped in an unbreachable fog for the last one hundred years. Prior to the continent being hidden away tensions with the other kingdoms had Luminaria on the brink of war, though knowledge of the reason why differs. Because of the forced isolation by the fog, the cause of which is unknown, there is no recent knowledge of the continent. Where a person comes from will determine what they know of Luminaria's past.

Players cannot currently have their character come from Luminaria. Any further information will need to be gathered in game.
