Base World Information

This page is for players to learn about the various aspects of Wraithvale so that they can gain a basic understanding of the world their character will inhabit. There will be some base knowledge about each continent as well as an option to read more. We suggest that players only dive deeper on the continent they wish their character to come from, this allows for role play opportunities with your fellow players who are from elsewhere. 

What Everyone Knows

 Rumor, legend, and speculation abound but due to lack of official record it becomes difficult to know what truly happened in the past of Wraithvale. Contradictions between continents are rampant and it has only been in the last three hundred years or so that written historical records have become common enough that some sort of truth can be derived from comparing accounts from different sources. 

While each continent has stories about gods, belief in their existence varies regionally. A common thread throughout the myriad of oral traditions is a name from The Creators for those with the knowledge to communicate and grow societies: "Sentients".

There are stories of The Ascended, Sentients who were chosen to become the ethereal representation of traits they embodied in life. Their existence is even more debated than that of the gods.

Anomalies are a known phenomenon, these are items and creatures that present with extremely abnormal abilities, though anyone using their knowledges on these creatures or objects will have them register as natural and non-magical. Some Anomalies are considered beneficial, though depending on where someone is from they may never actually trust them. Others are actively hostile and should be avoided at all cost.

The Strangelight Foundation (headquartered on the eponymous island nation of Strangelight) was created for the purpose of studying anomalies and responding appropriately when they arise. Strangelight has provided guides on the most common Anomalies to residents of most continents.

The continent of BlackThorn is extremely private, allowing very few visitors each year and only allowing traders and dignitaries out.

The continent of Luminaria has been trapped in an unbreachable fog for the last one hundred years. Before that the rest of Wraithvale was almost at war with the kingdom of Luminaria, though records of the reasons why differ. 

​

The Fae Realm is separated from the world of Sentients by a veil of illusion. In some places this veil is heavy while in others it becomes very easy to accidentally make your way into Echisis. Many continents have treaties with the largest Court of Fae, Enigma, but they only apply on Sentient soil; if a Sentient crosses into Faerie without being given safe passage they are at risk of being taken or killed and there would be no recourse.

The most common belief surrounding death is that when a Sentient dies they are met with a door to The After. Most of these doors open easily and allow the spirit to pass on to their final rest, whatever that may look like, or to be resurrected if the Sentient has a Dauntless Spirit. Occasionally, a soul becomes trapped in The In-Between, a spirit realm that overlays the land of the living. Sometimes this soul can be rescued and returned to their bodies, most times they must either find the door and pass to The After or slowly forget their life as a living being.
