The Ascended
Throughout the lands of Wraithvale there are said to be individuals who, intentionally or not, become the embodiment of certain concepts or ideals. Upon Death these individuals are met by Meripropile herself and offered a choice; step through their door into The After or Ascend. There is no ill will to those who choose rest, some paths to becoming Ascended involve living a harsh and taxing life and the idea of continuing that is just too much.
The Ascended are guardians, meant to help those who follow a similar path to the one they walked in life. They are, at their core, spirits, and therefore cannot themselves have an effect on or interact with the world at large. When they find individuals who have locked on to a specific belief or goal that resonates with their purpose some Ascended are able to grant certain abilities and assistance to those individuals. The legends say that each Ascended has familiars who will observe potential charges on their behalf since they are not omnipresent.
Below is a list of some of the more well known Ascended, though there may be others less sought out or more reclusive.
Cardamum
Once upon a time a woman fell in love with the moon. Unlike the moon, the woman was not eternal. You cannot see the true moon from The After. To remain with her love the woman agreed and became Cardamum, The Ascended of Safe Travels. The moon has always been an ally and guardian to travelers and so Cardamum praises the moon to all who will listen.
Elenwen
Music is a universal language and to some there is nothing more beautiful than a well played melody. The Ascended of Harmony carries the songs of civilizations old and new within her heart.
Fa'ra'ki
Fa'ra'ki is the Ascended of Alteration. Little is known about this Ascended or how he gained his title. While alteration may seem a mild ability the stories of Fa'ra'ki and what he altered have made him one of the more feared Ascended. Tales of twisted humanoids and risen dead mean that most Sentients prefer to give the Ascended of Alteration a wide berth.
Magnus
Their name would lead one to believe that Magnus must be an Ascended of something great scale. From a certain perspective that is true, from another it is very misleading. Magnus is an Ascended of Nature. There are many aspects of Nature and so there are multiple Ascended who fit this broad category. Magnus is the Ascended of small plants and creatures. Plants just beginning to sprout, small animals that scamper about, and tiny mushrooms that will never grow larger than an average Sentients finger are some of the things that fall under Magnus' purview.
Nepenthe
Nepenthe is the Ascended of Wisdom. While this may seem an idea so widespread that anyone could have her space, the Ascended of Wisdom is not only wise, they must also use that wisdom with prudence and good judgement. Many are wise in theory, living in that wisdom and utilizing it for the good of those around you and the preservation of life is what may draw Nepenthe and her parliament of familiars.
Rainier
Belief is an interesting thing. Someone may believe in only things they can see, someone else may only trust their intuition. The Ascended of Belief is a spirit of possibility, of potential.
Thayer
The Ascended of Nobility is a title not bestowed lightly. To be a noble is one thing, to act in a noble fashion with no expectation of reward is another matter entirely. Thayer is a symbol for those who wish to live a life of honor, generosity, courage, and honesty.
